The library receives many unsolicited serials and periodicals from a variety of sources.  Some come with another title that we have ordered, others are sent as solicitations for a subscription.  We have developed a procedure for reviewing this titles and keeping track of the decision.

Basic Prcedures

Search the title in HOLLIS.  If the Law Library does not have a record for the title, use the form for a "white slip search" found on the department's intranet page.

The purpose is to gether information to help the selector make a decision about whether this is a title we should add to the collection.  The information we are looking for is:

Is it available at another Harvard library; if so, cite HOLLIS number and library

Is it available electronically; cite where--organization's website, HeinOnline, Lexis, Westlaw, etc.

Check for an OCLC record for more bibliographic information and to make sure it is not a title change

When you have gathered all easily available information, place the slip in the piece and route to the selector responsible for that juridiction or type of material
